Step Back in Time: Exploring the History of Human Enslavement 


This course is about the history of human enslavement in several civilizations, beginning the story from the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia to an enslaved woman from Africa and ending with the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860. It traces the various legislative victories for the slave-holding states and their gradual decline in power leading up to Lincoln's election.

We'll take a deep dive into the events that led to emancipation, including the treaty with the Creek Indians in 1790 and the Fugitive Slave Law of 1793; the act of 1798 granting permission to extend slavery into ceded territories; the Missouri Compromise of 1820; the suppression of petitions from 1836-1845; and much more.
